Building the abundance movement

I waited tables for six years at $2.13 an hour, then spent a decade as a U.S. diplomat. Now I research AI risk and run DC Abundance, a 500-person policy network.
Almost everyone in these fights wants the greater good. But most fights are trade-offs, and trade-offs go to whoever is organized. That is rarely the people with the least money. In many states, existing health clinics can veto new ones. Rules like this are why housing, independent clinics, and daycare are scarce.
I write about these frictions. They are easy to overlook, which is why forecasts about new technology run too rosy and too dire. They are also what we can fix.

I have two cats, Alexa and Siri. I love tech. I taught myself to fix computers, and later got paid to do that in college.
I was a diplomat for ten years, so I’ve picked up French, Arabic, and Portuguese, on top of my first language, Spanish.
I take singing lessons and often do open mics and musicals-themed karaoke!
