Investigating stories about the future

I’ve been interested in the intersection between science and society since my undergraduate days, studying genetics and learning about the complex tradeoffs of modern agriculture, GMOs and human genomics. This led to me studing for my PhD in Evolutionary Biology, writing essays for Asimov Press and Works In Progress, and to my current job analysing the potential impacts of emerging technologies.

I enjoy writing fiction as much as essays, and am interested in better understanding how the stories we tell ourselves about the future influences tech adoption and societal change.

I’m obsessed with fiction in all its forms, from doorstopper classics to modern writers finding completely new styles and new stories to tell.

My specialist subject is the history of Las Vegas, which is the setting of my first novel.

When not reading or writing, I find peace being in nature. I love a long hike, I will get excited for a rare bird or some lichen.
