The Roots of Progress

Privacy Policy

Policy Effective July 10, 2023

The Roots of Progress (“us”, “we”, “our”), a 501(c)(3) public educational charity, is committed to protecting the privacy of our site visitors. This Privacy Policy describes how we treat personal information we collect on our websites, including rootsofprogress.org and fellowship.rootsofprogress.org.

We offer visitors to our websites the opportunity to provide their email addresses to us using a submission form. We may collect information about the browser you’re using and employ cookies to track activity. We may also collect information if you ask us a question. If you apply to one of our fellowship programs, we collect the information you submit in your application.

We do not presently sell any goods and services to the public. We use information to respond to your requests or questions and to send you our regular newsletters. We use information for limited marketing purposes; for example, we might send you information about our supporting our educational efforts or sharing information about programs we offer, such as the Roots of Progress fellowship. We use information as otherwise permitted by law.

We may share information with third parties who perform services on our behalf. For example, we may share information with vendors who maintain our email lists or contract with vendors who make collecting application information easy. Some vendors may be located outside of the United States. We do not sell your data or share beyond those third parties.

We may share information if we think we have to in order to comply with the law or to protect ourselves. For example, we will share information to respond to a court order or subpoena. We may also share it if a government agency or investigatory body requests. Or, we might also share information when we are investigating potential fraud.

We may share information with any successor to all or part of our organization. For example, if we were to merge with another not-for-profit, our email list may be part of that transaction.

We may share your information for reasons not described in this policy. We will tell you before we do this.

You can opt out of receiving our emails for marketing purposes. To stop receiving marketing emails, follow the instructions in any email message you get from us or email us at privacy@rootsofprogress.org.

You can modify information you have given us. To correct or delete information, send us an email at privacy@rootsofprogress.org. This deleted or corrected information may stay in our backup files. We will provide you with an amended record of your personal information if requested.

Our services are not intended for children. Our services are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or legal guardian and think your child under 13 has given us information, you can email us at privacy@rootsofprogress.org. Please mark your inquiry “COPPA Information Request.”

We use standard security measures. We have security measures in place to protect your information. The standard security measures we use will depend on the type of information collected. If you live outside of the United States, you understand and agree that we may transfer your information to the United States. This site is subject to U.S. laws, which may not afford the same level of protection of those in your country, though we will adhere to local privacy regulations of the countries in which we routinely do business to the best of our ability.
